Booster vaccination against COVID-19 recommended for vulnerable people this fall

The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) is urging vulnerable or at-risk individuals to get a booster shot against COVID-19 this fall.

This follows a similar recommendation by the Comité d'immunisation du Québec (CIQ) and the National Director of Public Health, Dr. Luc Boileau.

Among those considered vulnerable or at risk are:

  • People living in long-term care centres, in private seniors' residences or in other environments with a high proportion of vulnerable seniors
  • Those who are 60 years old and up
  • Individuals who are immuno-compromised, on dialysis or living with a chronic disease
  • Pregnant women
  • Healthcare workers
  • Adults living in remote or isolated areas

For those who wish to get vaccinated, at least six months should have passed since the last dose.

A new vaccine, adapted to fight the most recent variants of the virus, is in the process of being approved by Health Canada. A vaccination campaign will be launched in Quebec in October, as soon as the vaccine is available.

More information (in French only) can be found on the  MSSS website.
